Writing vs. Storytelling

It is undeniable that quality writing is valuable. Communicating clearly and concisely is the first step to connecting with your audience. But writing becomes exponentially more powerful when it incorporates storytelling. In fact, a recent study showed how people expressed stronger love for favored brands than for their loved ones when the test subject’s relationship to the brand was tied to a story.

Now, I have a hard time imagining I’d rush into a burning house to save my Stickley Morris chair over one of my kids. But I do love that chair. And I can definitely say that the story behind it is a big part of why. Which tells me 2 things:

  1. My kids better think twice about how they treat me
  2. I’m going to try and work more stories into my writing
